I have a deep love for Ukraine that goes back many years, ever since I joined my college choir to tour Ukraine and join our voices with the amazing musicians there in their great cathedrals and churches. Read more about this in my blog post
Recently I received a private message from a catering company in Kyiv, Ukraine, called Imperial Catering. In fact, it’s a group of several Ukrainian caterers and restaurant owners who decided to stay in the city in the midst of the war going on all around them. Crazy, I know. What’s more, they’ve joined forces for the purpose of preparing food every day for 1,350 people – soldiers, police, elders and other civilians who are left in the war-ravaged nation. I’ll spare the details but Steve did the obligatory research to determine these people were in fact legitimate and not some fly-by-night scammers taking advantage of a terrible situation. After all of this was confirmed, we sent a bit of money and then figured – why not invite others to help as well! And what better way to do this than a virtual cooking class! So here we are…
We’re going to do a Ukrainian-food themed meal and it is going to be amazing! All proceeds will go STRAIGHT to Imperial Catering in Kyiv. In fact, registration will consist of you making a donation of $40 (or more!) to the PayPal account they’ve set up and then just forwarding the email confirmation on to me as proof.
Here’s what we’ll be making…
- • Classic Ukrainian perogies (Varenyky)
- • Ukrainian borsht – vegetarian and beef versions
- • Nalesniki with cheese and fruit – traditional Ukrainian dessert
The class will be about 3 hours in length and begins promptly at 3:30 pm. However, we will open up the room at 3:00 so that guests can prepare, ask questions and connect with other guests. We will have an opportunity to talk about Ukraine throughout the session and the charity that we will be raising support for.
As I mentioned above, the cost is $40 per household/computer (or more! It’s for a good cause, after all). Using Paypal, you can donate straight to these folks by sending your money to email@example.com (Albert is a manager of the Imperial Catering company.)
If you’re not able to send via PayPal, get in touch with me on my socials or via email and we can figure out another method!
After your payment, please forward some form of confirmation to me (firstname.lastname@example.org) and I’ll add you to the registration list! That’s it!
